Family Portrait Process
Every portrait session begins with a Zoom or phone consultation where we get to know each other. I'll learn about your family, any special considerations, and your vision for the session. Together, we'll brainstorm ideas about locations, wardrobe, family groupings, and scheduling to create the perfect plan. This conversation is essential because I consider family portraits a true collaboration—the more input you share, the better your photos will reflect who you are as a family.
On shoot day, I like to start by spending time meeting everyone so your family feels comfortable with me. This gives everyone a chance to ask questions or share any special requests before we start photographing. I typically capture several variations of your groupings in different locations, as I find that with each reset, the family dynamics and expressions naturally evolve, giving you a wonderful range of images to choose from.
After the session, I'll send you a curated selection of images to review. Once you make your choices, I'll deliver your final photos with full retouching included. Since it's often impossible to capture one frame where everyone loves how they look, I offer face compositing—blending each person's favorite expression from different shots into one perfect group portrait that will make everyone happy.
Making Each Session Special
Every family has unique dynamics that make them who they are, and that's what makes each portrait session special! When it comes to wardrobe, I encourage letting everyone's personality shine through their clothing choices. This approach is so much more reflective of each person than perfectly coordinated outfits. And yes—pets are absolutely welcome and encouraged!
Family portraits can be photographed in your home or at locations that hold special meaning for your family.
Travel
These rates include travel within an hour of NYC, up to a full day of photography (with a 3-hour minimum), and various grouping setups throughout the session.
I'm available to travel anywhere in the world. I love traveling to meet families in their homes or special locations for reunions and gatherings.
Timeline & Booking
While I can accommodate last-minute sessions, I recommend starting the process about three weeks before your desired shoot date to ensure availability and allow plenty of time for planning. After our session, you'll receive your edit of images within two days. Once you submit your final selections, please allow four days for your fully retouched images to be delivered. I'm happy to accommodate reasonable rush requests when needed.
